Eat & Learn Lunch

Eat & Learn

Natural Environment Learning is an integral part of our ABA curriculum.  It is imperative that our students be able to take the skills they learn in the classroom and generalize them across different environments.  Many of our families experience difficulties taking their children out to dine in restaurants.  Our “Eat and Learn” Field Trip Program provides our students with the opportunity to learn how to conduct themselves in a restaurant setting.  Everything from ordering food, sitting appropriately, table manners and feeding skills are addressed in a meaningful and realistic environment.  This year, our students and Summer Camp participants visited Chili’s Restaurant twice; the first visit was to introduce the concepts learned in the classroom and the second visit provided reinforcement and follow-up on the skills attained.  This program was made possible through the generosity of the Florida Marlins Community Foundation and we are truly grateful for their support.

Talent Show

Talent Show

On Friday, June 3, 2011, SFACS had their 2ndAnnual “SFACS’ Got Talent” End of Year Show.  The show took place at Hialeah-Miami Lakes High School auditorium, and the theme was "SFACS Got Talent."  This special event provided our students and their families with an opportunity for social and recreational exposure that they would not normally experience.  Many of our students had never had the opportunity to perform before an audience, and every single student in the school participated in the show.  We are very grateful to the Hialeah-Miami Lakes High administration, staff, and students, who were incredibly supportive of this event, both by hosting SFACS and also assisting in the preparation of the show and construction of props.

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving

On Wednesday, November 24, 2010, our students, their families, and our staff members came together to celebrate our 2nd annual SFACS Thanksgiving Family Luncheon. The school provided the turkey and every classroom brought in side dishes. Everyone gathered in the library to give thanks and then enjoyed a buffet-style lunch. Thank you to all the families who participated.

Homecoming Week / Sports Day

Homecoming Week / Sports Day

During the week of February 7 through 11, 2010, SFACS celebrated our 2nd annual Homecoming Week. Each day was given a theme, such as "Cultural Day", "Pajama Day", "Crazy Hair Day", and "Nerd Day". On Friday, February 11th, all of our students and families participated in an Olympic themed "Sports Day." Participants represented the following countries: USA, China, Spain, Great Britain, and Jamaica. The event was held in the adjacent Slade Park, and included many sports-related and recreational activities for the children, their families, and our staff. This was a special event four our students and their families and everyone had a lot of fun. We are very grateful for the assistance of the City of Hialeah Parks and Recreation Department and the Hialeah Police Department.

Homecoming Dance

Homecoming dance

On March 11, 2010, SFACS celebrated our first annual Homecoming Dance. Students in Grades 2nd through 9th participated in a Mardi Gras themed celebration with music, dancing and snacks. This was a significant day for all our students, as many had never attended a dance before. Everyone "dressed up" and had a great time!
